The Community Services Institute (CSI) is affiliated with many community
based and civic organizations. We are direct partners with Denvers NAACP, the Denver
Housing Authority, Denver Department of Human Services, Colorado Department of
Corrections, the Greater Denver Ministerial Alliance, the Greater Metropolitan Denver
Urban League, the Denver Community Development Credit Union, the Bridging Group, Denver
Community Television (DCTV), KLDC Radio, the Body of Christ and The Denver Weekly News,
the Sojourner United Church of Christ, the American Baptist Churches USA and Rocky
Mountain Regions, the Center for Network Development, Society of Addiction Counselors in
Colorado, and many more. The following represents various services we provide in
partnership with some of these affiliated
Financial Counseling
- Our Wednesday evenings are reserved for community enlightenment regarding financial
management, and counseling. The workshops, classes and/or seminars, take place every
Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. We utilize the genius of persons working
as entrepreneurs in this industry, managing credit unions, and facilitating real estate
transactions
Community Alert
- There are times when we simply need help expressing our emotions, our feelings, our
pains, fears and tears. There are times when expressions like these, quite frankly turn
people off. People cannot hear our stories because of the pain we bring with them. This is
the time that we need an advocate, or at least an interpreter to help us sift out the
bitterness we feel when trying to express ourselves. This is the purpose of our service,
Community Alert. It is designed for people who are struggling mentally, emotionally, and
spiritually. We help them put their thoughts on paper in a coherent, logical, and
empowered manner. Once they are on paper, we can help our clients decide who should hear
their stories.
CSI Newspaper Ministry
- Here we find two opportunities for ministry to the community. The first is through a
column entitled Hagars Corner featured in the monthly Denver paper entitled the Body
of Christ. Being strong is not enough to survive in this 21st Century. In this day and
age, we need to move into another realm of existence. It is called having power. This
column provides insights for persons interested in Transforming Their Strength Into Power.
The second column is provided through the Denver Weekly News, and is entitled Peace
of Mind Through Peace With God. It provides insights into ways that we partner with
God in Spirit and in Truth. We learn how to behave in ways that allow intimacy,
confidence, and partnership with God. This column is also syndicated in other cities in
this country.
Senior Citizens Ministry
- As CSI is affiliated with American Baptists
Homes of the Midwest USA, it provides a weekly outreach to one of the assisted living
entities, the Franklin Park Residences. This Bible Study takes place every Tuesday
afternoon from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. All are welcomed to participate in this community
event. Franklin Park is located at 1535 Franklin Street, Denver, CO 80218. Please join us.
Community Corner
- This is a weekly television program appearing on the Denver Community
Television cable station, channels 57, 58, and 59. We come to the community live every
Friday evening from 7:00 until 7:30 p.m. The program features people, places, and events
we feel contribute to the positive growth of our Denver metropolitan community.
Prison Ministry
- The CSI is one of the partners through the Bridging Group that provides
pastoral counseling, and therapy to prison inmates. As well, CSI provides reentry services
for persons released, paroled, or otherwise in transition. People enrolled in these
services receive support with family, housing, job placement, and volunteer services.
These services are available only to persons enrolled in the program.
CSI Radio Ministry
- Every Wednesday afternoon from 1:00-1:30 p.m., CSI provides "on
air" advice regarding our emotional issues. Dr. Marjorie Lewis, responds to callers
from the Denver Metropolitan Areas providing frank advice regarding our efforts to
"Clean Up Our Mess."
American Pathways Educational Consortium
- We are partners with seven other entities in our efforts to train,
develop and educate interested persons pursuing certification and/or licensure in the
areas of addiction counseling, play therapy, and/or marriage and family therapy. Our site
has been licensed by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division of the State of Colorado. Our
staff include members of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists who
are clinical members and approved supervisors. As well, in the area of Experiential (play)
Therapy, we have staff who are registered and certified supervisors. This positions us to
provide a comprehensive community service to those seeking certification in any of these
arenas. Our partnership with American Pathways empowers us to provide training, education,
and development at costs affordable to a majority of our citizens.
Church Outreach
- On the first Sunday of every month, we offer a faith based approach on
community through our Community Day at The Sojourner Ministries. This church provides a
forum for learning and applying the word of God in progressive and contemporary ways. We
gather together every Sunday morning beginning with Bible Study from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m.
This is followed by worship service at 10:30 a.m. We are located at 1726 Downing Street
Denver, CO. 80218. While all are welcomed every Sunday, you are especially invited to
share with us every first Sunday of the month for our Community Day. We feature community
issues, sharing insights from the word of God.
"The Power of Community."
